A wee bit about moi
I started this blog to share my knowledge and experience I have gained throughout my personal and professional career. As a FOSS enthusiast and contributor, I feed on the community engagement to get things done ethically, fairly and free to use. In my free time, I dance Lindy Hop, roller skate, olympic lift, play JRPGs and of course, push to Git.
Student Life
At univeristy (mid 2000s), I worked for Ubuntu in my spare time as an Admin in the Forums team, supporting enterprise customers. Here I truly learned Linux and started to push updates and fixes to the respective repositories. This paid for my rent, food and beer.
Professional Life
Once I completed my Masters, got my first job at a Dutch bank operating in the UK, ING, as a Linux and Core banking Admnistrator.
Time went by, took a career break, I travelled Asia and after years on the road, I got a call from a former ING colleague (and great friend) who said they want my services at ING NL - this time working at HQ at the largest bank in The Netherlands.
Now I am the Tech Leader (Senior Manager) of Global Core bank domain, working in autonomous teams using the Spotify-model with bi-weekly release cycles (from 6 months!). See our journey here as we paved way into Team Topologies when we outgrew DevOps and how we helped Matthew and Manuel define the role of Platform Engineering. The global markets under my domain are Market Leaders (Benelux Union), The Challengers (Italy, Spain) and finally The Growth (Poland, Romania, The Philippines), totalling close to 500 personnel.
My most recent assignment is the introduction of Team Topologies on a Global level, with the primary focus on The Platform and Enabling teams.
